Jacob’s Glory – Honour

“Let my soul not enter into their council;
Let not my glory be united with their assembly;
Because in their anger they slew men,
And in their self-will they lamed oxen.”

-Jacob (Genesis 49:6)

Context

Jacob was about to die. He summoned his 12 sons to tell them what will “befall you” in the days to come. He then gave instruction for burial with his fathers,

  • Abraham and his wife Sarah,
  • Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and
  • Lea who he already buried there.

Thoughts

I think Jacob’s glory is like his honour or legacy and that he didn’t want it to be associated with such violence. What do you think?
