“You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has become proud. Enjoy your glory and stay at home; for why should you provoke trouble so that you, even you, would fall, and Judah with you?”
This is what Jehoash said to Amaziah, king of Judah, essentially warning him but he did not listen. So Jehoash (Israel) defeated Amaziah (Judah) and the king was captured. A large portion of the wall of Jerusalem was torn down and Israel took all the utensils, gold and silver from the house of the LORD.
Thoughts
I think this glory is somewhat like human victory or success. The context is a stark reminder that pride can cloud our judgement and lead to complete ruin. Has pride every impacted your life? If yes, what did you learn?
