The LORD said He was going to give the sons of Israel the land of Canaan. He told Moses to appoint one from each of the 12 tribes to spy out the land. They were gone for 40 days and when they returned, 10 of the 12 gave a bad report.
Caleb from the tribe of Judah, and Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim tore their clothes and spoke to all the people to believe what God had said (Numbers 14:6-9). This is where today’s verse begins, with all the congregation wanting to stone them for what they said.
Thoughts
I think that God intervened in that very moment so that Caleb and Joshua would not be stoned, and so that all the congregation would remember that God is in charge.
This is not the first time they had seen the glory of the LORD appear to them. What do you think they felt at they glory of the LORD appearing to them in this circumstance?
